INS Legacy

Viva Insurgency!

Posted in insurgency by Argyll on December 31, 2009

I have a habit of checking the Steam stats page to see how many people are playing Insurgency.

The new decade has arrived for much of the world, and overall activity is below normal on Steam.

As I check the stats page at the moment of writing, I witness for the first time Insurgency’s absence from the 75 games listed. The reason is not solely because of New Year’s Eve.

A patch to fix the game crashing, experienced and reported by many players since November, has failed to arrive before the holidays, as promised.

It is too late in the mod’s life cycle to reverse the damage done to the community. Insurgency has been on its death bed, and I am afraid it is slipping away.

The legacy of Insurgency left by the current developers is dismal. If you have followed this blog, you will know I have done all I can to try and save the project from its demise.

I foresaw this project’s life, and I could foresee its death.

Expect an official postmortem soon.

Just like those crazy Republicans predicted. Death panels. Pulling the plug on “Grandma” Insurgency Mod.

    Please don’t pull that plug!

    2007 – Ins 1.0 crashes every 10 minutes

2008 – Ins 1.1 crashes once in a long while, just to remind you – you are no the boss of it

2009 – Ins 2.5 crashes twice a day, gotta keep you mutherfucker in check. 3 years of custom content – useless.

2010 – Ins 3.0 crashes every 10 minutes. 4 years of custom content – gone.

But dont despair! Beta 3 will be out somewhere around early 2011! And it will have all the loved crashes and bugs of 2.5 and earlier INS versions.

Sad, though. INS was fun back in 2.1, but then we were promised 2.5 in July and waited until fucking October. Then no word from the devs, except them warning people on the forums for speaking out.

I have also had an eye on that list myself, and seen how it drasticaly dropped the last period of time =(. Also very noticable when looking at my “steam friends” activity, where Insurgency has dropped to close to 50% :O.

Probably a mix of many reasons, but I bet that MW2 made the final strike.

I can only wish that Ins has a bright future after all, becuase I really like the theme and idea behind it all and was very fun in competetive mode =).

    Cheers!

Looks like INS is dead. No more forums.

    2007 – Insurgency 1.0 – crashes every 10 minutes, tests your persevereness
2008 – Insurgency 1.1 – crashes one every while to keep you mutherfuckers in line
2009 – Insurgency 2.5 – crashes every 30 minutes, all custom content is gone
2010 – Insurgency 3.0 – crashes every 15 minutes, to remind you of the good olde days

2011 – Insurgency 3.1 – the game is perfect, no crashes

    ..

    ….
    ….
2012 – Insurgency 2.0 – crashes every 10 minutes, all your custom skins are worthless again!

    LOL!

Insurgency 3.0- All custom content is cheat locked and saying anything bad about INS in game triggers an instant VAC and forum ban as well as legal action.

Just went to the INS Forums and noticed 57 Guests and 0 registered members browsing in the past 15 minutes. Sad.

I’m busy traveling (in Los Angeles!) so have not been able to finish up postmortem yet but will do so once I have the opportunity.
