INS Legacy

If you had $1500…

Posted in essentials, insurgency, news by Argyll on January 21, 2010

Would you pay the developers? Would you pay for something that would improve development of the mod or community?

How could you improve Insurgency with $1500?

There was a time that the mod received this amount of money, for winning an award, and it obviously went into somebody’s undeserving pockets since it was not invested back into improving the mod or community.

by undeserving pockets do you mean a person whose name shall not be mentioned?

to be as honest as i can be, had i 1500 dollars i would not send it to the current developers. i would to the old crew who devoted time and effort in making the mod to what they visualised and thought would be atmospheric and fun. the mod is slowly dying like its been shot in the leg and bleeding out. i would prefere all development stopped rather than being promised things which will not see the light of day before the mod dies, cos with its current start stop process its an insult to the community and the original founders. to be honest i rather express my opinions here where i know some members of the community will see it opposed to typing your mind and receiving a possible ban or reply deletion. the official forums have become something like a country under martial law and the forum members are sometimes like a resistance group trying to start a revolution.

I know who accepted the money, but can’t say where it went.

It is evident that the money was not invested to improve the mod itself, nor was it used to ‘award’ those who brought the project to the winning position.

    Hello

If one of the readers of this blog happens to own a server or just wants to mess around they might be interested in this:
    http://www.dodrebel.net/forums/showthread.php?5415-%5BREL%5D-Real-War-Weapons-Mod&p=48051

It’s a weapons mod. It changes some of the weapons and the load outs. Our favorite Ins forum mod Endless (I confirmed it’s him) deleted the appropriate thread on the official forum.

  5. Dylan said, on January 27, 2010 at 15:59

“Since the thread derailed briefly into disrespectfull and insulting comments about staff of our team the last comment of Alderman was deleted and the thread is closed.”

    Fucker.

I love the myth that THEY are the ones responsible for the awards won… probably why they thought they deserved keeping the money too.

2.0 barely brought the obvious, necessary changes needed for the mod… most of which still remain unresolved to this day. Nor was there any real attempt to refine the mod gameplay wise – which they didn’t establish in the first place, which probably explains why they are afraid to touch it. If it weren’t for this underground movement, I doubt any patches would have been released between 2.1 and the mysterious INS 3. If they had bothered to have any sort of realistic foresight (which is only attained by experience by the way), there would never be this sort of hostility coming from the community. That’s what they don’t get. Good work = praise, Bad work = rebellion. They have had far more rebellion than praise, and any of the latter comes for something they had no responsibility for.

Hell, I was even the one who posted the appeal for people to vote for INS…

Keep the pressure on lads! Funny how they think YOU are doing MY “megaphoning” when in fact it is the opposite: I started doing it for the community because of the regime’s clampdown on valuable fan feedback. I wasn’t afraid to be a martyr.

This gives me an idea. I used to make a weapons mod for CSS,(some expirence making things for Source) mayeb I can do it for INS too, making a “community revision” of the mod for the people who are tired of waiting six months for a cosmetic update.

Probably will get sued by Endless the Nazi.

Looked over the mod…looks like they increased the SKS rof in what would take the devs YEARS to do.

Im going to redownload INS and see if I cant work some magic in the weapon scripts.

    RPG acc reduced.

    LMG recoil reduced.

All weapons have proper ADS drift now.

  15. Argyll said, on February 1, 2010 at 10:46

Cool Dylan, is it a server-side mod?

If you want to do a write-up of how to do it, I will publish it here.

Mods extend the life of a game.

  16. Dylan said, on February 1, 2010 at 15:57

I got most of the commands, there is a sample file enclosed with instructions. It is server side, and I am trying to get my former clan of TDB to use it for thier Sinjar server. The only thing I am having trouble with is how to increase the drift when aiming.

  17. Byzantine90 said, on February 3, 2010 at 02:29

dylan can you upload it somewhere cos some community servers i know may want to test it out.

  21. defunkt said, on February 9, 2010 at 14:35

So a small circle of ineffectual ‘devs’ (and I use the term loosely) have sat on the mod for two years getting fuck-all done and now, when it’s already a lost cause they hand it back to Jeremy. It’s what we down-under would call a hospital pass. Spielmann, Endless and Jaboo have killed this thing off long before its proper time.

  22. Caught off Guard said, on February 10, 2010 at 01:44

@ defunkt whilst I see your point and do in many ways agree with you, I don’t think its quite dead yet. in that one topic started by Jeremy he has done more and consulted with the community to a greater extent then any of the “3 stoogies” have ever really done. I actually thing is has his hands on the defib padels and is reviving it. Its got me thinking about INS again and visiting the forum. hopefully we have hit the bottom of the curve!

  23. defunkt said, on February 10, 2010 at 12:20

Well I for one find it very hard to take Insurgency’s future seriously while any of those three are involved. What is it they do exactly? Model? Map? Code? Strut around the forum telling everybody how far Insurgency has come with hardly any new models, maps or code?

What is the point of being distributed on Steam if you can’t get more than one patch out every 6 months? What is the point of putting any patch out if it breaks more than it fixes? Does anybody remember 2.0 – shotgun snipers and utterly futzed hit registration? How long did we put up with that? All 2.5-b-something did was restore the game to the playability of 1.1. And then nothing. And here we are, asked to get behind it again while they carry on in the same fashion promoting themselves with words rather than deeds:

Endless: “No one has broken anybodies game here. This game is a collective effort of a hard working team from day one. Just because you don’t like it, no one is forcing you to. The rest of the community which is obviously playing it has another opinion. The game is not perfect, but it has gone a long way since 1.x.”

Speilmann: “It is our understanding that the mod has advanced through all these years in terms of stability and overall conceptual integrity – even if as any amateur project the results are far from being optimal -. The input of the community has been a fantastic source of ideas and constructive criticism.”

I mean really, “gone a long way since 1.x”? Two maps that are always the first to be dumped from the rotation and what? Stability? C’mon. And “the input of the community” has to be the biggest joke in all of that, all they ever do is tell people how they know best when they’ve exihibited NFI. Don’t you just love waiting months and months for an already late patch ‘because of their extensive QA process’ and then when it comes out it’s bugged to hell.

If Insurgency isn’t already dead it is very near-to and those responsible should be arse-holed on principle. If Jeremy did manage to resurrect it the last thing I’d want to have to then read about it is anything they might then have to say on the rescue.

  24. Byzantine90 said, on February 10, 2010 at 17:05

    @ caught off guard

its good jeremy has enthusiasm in starting ins mod again but it appears too little too late. also the ‘devs’ have already promised content in the so called beta 3 which they rekon they’re working on. heres where it gets good. but why does jeremy ask what the community wants if most of the things we do want will be in a beta 3? ok considering jeremy is serious what makes anyone think its all going 1. to get done seeing as the current devs are doing what ever they’re doing and 2. will be released before the mod dies? right now i’m relying on dylans excellent mod (which is gettin reworked due to some things but its a trial and error process) to maybe be the ‘defib paddle’ either that or i’m moving straight to ARMAII:OPERATION ARROWHEAD when it gets released.
and again if any of your server admins are gonna run my mod please reply here or in the forum.
funny how if this is really ‘your’ mod it contains a fix to a glitch then why isnt it IN THE FUCKING PATCH THEN? keep up the gw dylan cant wait for the updated version

  26. Dylan said, on February 11, 2010 at 05:24

dont sweat it dylan, your working on it by yourself and have made good progress thus far, anything is better than waiting 3 months for a basic patch…and then being told it will be out in another week then it turns out its actually out 2 months later

  33. Dylan said, on February 12, 2010 at 19:16
Apparently it’s ok for Dylan to be “swamped with work now”, but us volunteer developers who put hours and hours into this mod on weekends and nights – it’s not ok to be a couple weeks off our deadline.

    You ungrateful trolls.

I guess some people will never be happy, even if 98% of the community is.

The amount of time we developers spend on the forum is out of this world. And you ungrateful bastards are still complaining like french school girls on their periods.
::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

The diffrence is that I am just making a little mod with some sounds added. You, on the other hand, are running a full time mod with a large community. And, I keep updating about my tiny weapons mod, while we hear from you around once every three months.

By my count, the last time we even got a screenshot of Beta 3 was in Nov 2008.

Not sure if you’re the real Endless but if so grow up!

It’s very simple, what the ins team can do with the money.
Create a contest for extra assets, specially levels and maybe a new weapon.
However the first step would be to work together, sit around the table and come up with a decent plan for the future and give the community something they deserve.

    Best regards,

This “endless” in this chat here is => MemberNo9000
If you open the http://www.mediafire.com/file/bndmm1nmnnk/endless_realwar_weaponsmod_b181.rar file you’ll find a link to a forum where he posted it which identifies him since he complained there about his post been unapproved in the insurgency forums.

    dim couple weeks as integer

‘time from july-oct ~ 14 weeks (quote- ok to be a couple weeks off our deadline.)

if couple weeks > 14 then endless = idiot
    end sub

  36. Snuffeldjuret said, on February 14, 2010 at 19:41

The glory days of the competitive scene is gone since 8 months back or so. I personally don’t really bother setting up matches etc anymore.

I cannot see how things would become better in that area until beta3 (or the most awesome 2.5.1 ever). But even then it is an uncertain future. I know so many players who loved insurgency who now love games such as BF:BC2.

What worries me is that people I’ve played with the last 18 months has so many just given up on the mod. Beta3 will have huge competition, and it has got to be really good to revive the “abused” and broken love from players.

The civil wars within insmod could kill it, since nothing substantially has happened to make and maintain peace during the time I’ve played it =(.

.. some thoughts from me :P

No longer TDB endless…why be in a boring clan for a game that feels about as interesting as watching grass grow.

Off to BC2..what INS should have been (- the vehicles)

  38. Dylan said, on February 15, 2010 at 07:39

You guessed it – we are too busy working on Beta 3.
    ———————————————————————————-
No, I didnt guess it. And, what is done for Beta 3 so far? Half a map and enough code to fill a text message?
